Lithuania v Germany

Lithuania (9) v (2) Germany

The supporters of these two teams exemplify what the Homeless World Cup is all about. In perfect harmony the German fans provided the thumping beat of the drums while the Lithuanian horn section rounded off a musical treat in this Cape Town trophy match on Pitch 1. Sadly Germany lacked the rhythm of their dancing followers and never looked in it against their talented European neighbours.

The yellow shirted Lithuanians are inspired by their deadly striker No.10 Deivis Pasazauskas. He was instrumental in keeping the Germans under the cosh and they were unable to match his consistent finishing in front of goal. They grew increasingly desperate as the game progressed - lashing a series of hopeful shots goalwards, or more often well shy of the net.

The damage was done early on. A gilt-edged German chance was missed and then two swift counters followed - including the first goal for Pasazauskas with his first touch after coming on as substitute. A glorious passing move then followed to open up a three goal cushion and the Lithuanians never looked back.  And to their credit, nor did the German fans, bashing out their rousing beat  and spurring on their beaten heroes until the final whistle.
