Ireland v Hungary

Ireland (5) v Hungary (4)

Ian Fitzgerald played like a modern day George Best in this game today.  The boy has all the attributes to go on and have a superb career in football, at whatever level.  Ian opened the scoring for the bhoys in green and didn't stop there, he chased every lost cause, controlled each ball played to him with a touch that would befit a player of more advanced years and shot with purpose and accuracy each time the chance presented itself.  Ireland also benefited from inspirational performances from Trevor, James, their fantastic keeper and the substitutes that came on and kept the balance of the game tilted firmly towards the Irish.

Although Hungary pulled the game back after the debateable sending off of Trevor the game was one controlled by classic Irish guile.  The team can count itself a modern day successor to the fine Irish teams that graced the World Cups of 1990 and 1994 in that their spirit is unshakable, their self-belief is omnipresent and their skill is unmistakable.

Final Score Ireland 5 Hungary 4.  Ireland had goals scored by Ian, Trevor and James.
