Ireland has continued on its winning way with a comprehensive 8-2 victory over a spirited Hong Kong outfit.

The match kicked off the second day of action at Federation Square stadium and a vocal crowd packed the stands in support of the teams.

Invigorated by their 11-2 win over the USA yesterday, Ireland looked intent on controlling the play early on in the match, passing with poise and precision and creating a myriad of scoring opportunities.

Irish star striker James Bell put the first goal on the board within two minutes to the delight of the passionate Irish supporters.

Bell pushed hard for a second goal but spirited defence and phenomenal goalkeeping from Hong Kong’s Siu Fung Cheung kept the Irishman at bay.

Fu Wing Chu then capitalised from a rare opportunity to even the ledger at 1-1 and the game was well and truly alive.

But Ireland responded to the challenge in style, further establishing themselves as a team to watch in the tournament.

A quick reply from Ross Crosbie followed by a further two goals from Bell – completing his first half hat-trick – handed the Irish a commanding 4-1 half time lead.

Hong Kong started the second half in the best possible fashion with a miraculous goal from Kwok Fu Leung reducing the deficit to 4-2 and sparking a newfound enthusiasm amongst the players.

But Ireland responded again, and four unanswered goals rounded out an impressive victory.
