Inter Milan and AC Milan Pitch In
The power of football to unite and change lives sees Inter Milan and AC Milan on the same side for the Milan 2009 Homeless World Cup from 6-13 September 2009. The two teams, eternal rivals on the pitch, but on this occasion allies, announced their support a few weeks before the tournament begins in Italy.
Both Football Clubs will contribute financial support, signed shirts, and raise awareness of the tournament with their fan base.
Alessandro Dell’Orto, President, Milan 2009 Homeless World Cup Local Organising Committee opened the press conference with an official thank you to both teams and to the Football League for the support and contributions to the event that will see 500 players from 48 nations stand proud to change their lives in the Arena Civica, Sempione Park.
“Football is the most beautiful sport in the world, and the Homeless World Cup joins passion with a social impact that enables the players to achieve their dreams - to participate in a World Championship, wear their national jersey and sing their national anthem. They are true champions.” said Dell’Orto.
Umberto Gandini, Organisational Director of A.C.Milan, said: “The history of our team, its relevance in Italy and above all the city of Milan encourages us to give our support to this important Event. Milan will help the Milan 2009 Homeless World Cup with a small gesture to crown the dream of all the participants, we believe, that our presence as a partner will be another reason for players to be proud.”
Ernesto Paolilo, Administrative Representative and Director General of F.C. International agreed, adding “Inter and Milan are ready to play this game side by side to promote awareness and understanding of homelessness. There is one striking and significant statistic, that around 70% of the former participants in the Homeless World Cup have changed their lives. Inter is happy to contribute so that we can take these important steps forward."
