India v Chile

India (9) v (8) Chile

Truly the prayer is mightier than the warm-up: This 5th and 6th place play off for the INSP trophy saw two very different methods of preparation as the Chileans spent a good 20 minutes getting their limbs moving and working on their passing moves. But it was India who prevailed, spurred on by a meditative pre-match moment of spiritual calm - they can also count on some fine long-range shooting.

And it was one of those trademark power strikes that earned them the win in this exciting tie against a Chile side built around the formidable talents of Roberto Arce. The No.10 scored the vast bulk of his team's goals but eventually the responsibility weighed too heavy as the match drew to a close. In a frenetic last few minutes the score went from 5-5 to 8-8, both teams trading blows in a breathless hurtle towards the final whistle.

The glory, in the end, went not to Arce but to the moustachioed Indian No.1, Satyen Kotulwar. He had consistently threatened; his fine slap-shot strikes rained down on the goal throughout. And the crucial strike was a beauty, driven low and hard into the bottom right-hand corner to set-up gleeful celebrations and a flag-waving photo opportunity..
