Greece v USA

Greece (7) v USA (6)

Greece met the USA for a chance to win the Ombold Cup,  which is awarded to the 33th  best  team in this championship but it had to battle hard to  win.

Greece may have been the cradle of philosophy and democracy, but it took more than this kinship with Socrates to  win, as the USA team proved a worthy enemy just like the Persians at the Thermopylae battle thousands of years ago.

Unlike the real Thermopylae,  on this sunny day in Copenhagen it was certainly the Greeks who won the battle and without injuries!

The rhythm of the game was  feverish:  once one team scored  in a matter of few seconds the other  followed suit.  Both teams were motivated but it looked as though Greece was more technically aware.

While the USA team players were eager to take every opportunity to score, the Greek  kept passing each other the ball, until a goal chance appeared. It seemed a game of enthusiasm versus tactics but all the same it was a game of equals.

The decisive goal was only scored a few seconds before the match ended. Greece had won and celebrated with a group hug.
