Greece v Kyrgyzstan

Greece (6) v Kyrgyzstan (3)

The generous spirit of the HWC is personified by the under-strength Kyrgyzstan side, bolstered as it is by an injection of players from the Danish reserves. The local connection failed to bear fruit this time round though as a determined Greece team saw off a spirited challenge - buoyed by a pre-match rendition of Happy Birthday for one of their players.

It was one of those Danish imports that helped keep Kyrgyzstan in the match throughout, the keeper proving a tough nut to crack amid some uptempo play from Greece. Stung by an early penalty from their opponents, the fellas from Hellas soon took the lead and never looked back.

Inspired by their skillful No.11, Greece kept the team in red pegged back throughout. Kyrgyzstan's star No.7 shone for the losers but even some great combination work with her Danish team mate No.20 failed to claw the back the Greek lead - and a fine double save at the death from their keeper helped avoid a heavier defeat.
