Ghana (12) v (2) Netherlands

Ghana (12) v (2) Netherlands

AFTER losing their first match 6-9 to Russia, Ghana stormed home today to a 12-2 victory over the Netherlands, who failed to improve their Group standing after beating Canada early Tuesday afternoon.

The match opened with a cracking shot by the Netherlands that was deftly snapped up by Ghana's goalkeeper, Ahadzie.

Ghana’s Boadu, given only a momentary glimpse of the goal, somehow managed to steer the ball into the back of the net. This was followed by another goal for Ghana with a shot so powerful the ball became little more than a blur.

The Netherlands goalkeeper really excelled against the raw power of the Ghana offence and proved himself one of the best keepers in the tournament.

Despite the best efforts of the Netherlands defence, Ghana continued to pepper the goals and brought the score line to 6-0.

A great cross by the Netherlands landed just out of reach of an eager striker, leaving the Netherlands goalless.  Still, the Netherlands managed to rally their defence and stifled numerous Ghana assaults.

For the opening minutes of the second half the teams seemed stuck in a stalemate as both tried unsuccessfully to find an opening. It was Boadu of Ghana who again managed to find that opening, making the score 7-0.

A shot from against the sideboards by a Netherlands' striker gave the lagging side their first goal. Ghana then scored two quick, successive goals, the score now 9-1.

Ghana produced some brilliant plays in the middle of the second half and brought their score 11.  But this was not before an inspirational display of teamwork gave the Netherlands their second.

In the dying minutes, the Netherland s really began to excel with Koster flaunting his ball skills as he danced around the Ghana defence. Despite his prowess, Koster was repeatedly denied by the Ghana keeper, Ahadzie.

The Netherlands exhibited some great teamwork but were unable to break the highly-organised Ghana team. Final score: 12-2.
