Ghana (11) v (2) Canada

Ghana continued to live up to their top-ten world ranking after soundly defeating Canada on Melbourne pitch, 11-2. This was a disappointing loss for Canada who won their first Group match.

Ghana and created a strong opening with an early goal from way down pitch. Ofosu of Ghana followed up with a great goal that came off the goalkeeper's hand only to land in the back corner of the net. This shot did result in an injury for Canada's keeper, who was actually the Australian reserve keeper Pommy, who came off for medical treatment.

After the brief pause, Ghana continued their blistering assault by scoring yet another goal, making it 3-0.  Boadu then chipped the ball over the substitute Canadian keeper to give Ghana a solid 4 goal lead.

Canada continued to mount assaults but failed to penetrate Ghana's organised defence.  The Canadian keeper made some tremendous saves but this didn't stop Ghana from sneaking in other two goals, 6-2.

Canada experienced a brief moment of elation when they thought they had scored but the referee determined that the shot had come from inside the goalkeeper's arc.

Ghana powered ahead with their goal-a-minute pace to finish the half 7-0.

Moments into the second half, Saban fired a lightning shot into Canada's net.

Determined to improve on the first half, Canada sent some powering shots at goal but just couldn't beat Ghana's keeper.

Canada was awarded a penalty but the shot came off the wrong side of the post, leaving the scores at 8-0. A second penalty to Canada gave the determined Senko a successful shot at goal, 8-1.

Spurred on by Senko's terrific shot, Canada produced a second goal, 8-2. But Ghana's skilled players scored two quick goals – one from a superbly placed corner pass and another from a deadly accurate cross, 10-2.

The Canadian keeper did his best to keep Ghana's score stagnant but the powerful forward line managed another goal before full time. Final score, 11-2.
