Germany (6) v (2) Chile

Germany (6) v (2) Chile

Germany added another win to their Group tally after defeating Chile, 6-2, who is yet to win a match after losing to South Africa in a penalty shoot-out earlier the same day.

Helliger scored the first goal of the match, allowing Germany to pull away early on. Walencik increased Germany's lead as he smashed the ball past a surprised keeper.

A rough challenge by Garrido on German player Walencik, saw Garrido sent off with a blue card, but not before there was a heated exchange with the referee – from this point on the match was fast and furious.

A shot from inside the keeper's arc was unsuccessful for Chile and Germany quickly responded with a successful goal of their own, making the score, 4-0.

Chile began to deliver shot after shot but the German keeper, Pfeiffer, always managed to put himself in front of the ball.

At the opening of the second half the score was 4-0 but a quick goal by Walencik edged Germany further ahead.

Salvation came for Chile when Andrade converted a penalty. It was a raging battle as the physical aspect of the competition intensified and fouls were frequently called.

Chile began to dominate possession but Germany continued to find openings in their defence.

Chile's  Andrade managed a terrific left-foot shot that brought Chile to 2, but Germany's precision plays gave them another goal before full time.

The German keeper, Pfeiffer, saved a last ditch attempt at goal when Chile was awarded a penalty as the match wound down. Final score, 6-2.
