Fundraising success stories
All around the world dedicated individuals have been fundraising for the Homeless World Cup. Here a number of them report back on their experiences and inspire you to get fundraising to support the mission of involving 100,000 players in the Homeless World Cup by 2010.
Greece: A marathon victory raises 1000 euros
Galera n Greece challenged themselves to beat the difficult, mountainous course of the Alonissos Marathon. Gabi Naegele, Nick Valatsos, Yiannis Apostolakos and Chris Alefantis were victorious in reaching the finishing line and raising over 1,000 euros for the Homeless World Cup to take 10 teams from economically poorer nations to Copenhagen.
A big thanks to all our friends and supporters who were so quick to respond to Alonissos adventure for the Homeless World CupCup.
Liverpool: 12-hour busking session raises £250
Matthew Garner busked his heart out in the centre of Liverpool for a full 12 hours raising £250. Matthew also volunteered at the Copenhagen 2007 event as a match reporter and held frequent guitar sessions, entertaining in the Player's Lounge.
Edinburgh: Benefit gig raises £700
Nick Marks superbly pulled off the first in a series of six benefit gigs he has planned to raise funds for the Homeless World Cup. The gig attracted more than 100 people to see an eclectic mix of Scotland's finest up and coming bands, who all donated their appearance to the cause: The Hussy’s, Blind Summit and Atlantic. Great reviews in the Edinburgh Evening News noted the awesome spirit and atmosphere on the night.
Edinburgh: Sky dive raises £1,500
On 30th September a group of three friends embarked on a sky dive to raise money for the Homeless World Cup and all returned! The group included the Homeless World Cup's own Becca McInally: "After a terrifying day of waiting and watching others, we ascended in a tiny 4 seater plane to 10,000ft and prepared to jump. Following a liberating 5000ft freefall reaching 180mph in 20seconds, we deployed the parachute and glided down for the final 5000ft. I was lucky enough to jump as the sun was setting on a beautifully clear evening and was able to see from the River Tay to the Firth of Forth and even had a glimpse of the Forth Rail Bridge."
Glasgow: Womans' 10K run raises £150

Bronnie Rodgers was so inspired by attending the Homeless World Cup in Edinburgh 2005 she became our very first fundraiser in 2007 and has completed a challenge, and what a challenge it was! Bonnie participated in a 10k Woman;s race in her home city of Glasgow in May 2007 and raised over £150 by collecting donations from her friends, family and colleagues. Nice one Bronnie!
Dumfries & Galloway: Walk raised £100

A dedicated group of young people and support workers from the Dumfries and Galloway area of Scotland took part in a sponsored walk raising over £100 for the Homeless World Cup.
