The Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup will be played on three pitches, one in Federation Square: the Fed Square Stadium and two in Birrarung Marr: the Yarra and Melbourne pitches

Federation Square

federation squareFed Square Stadium, this purpose built stadium will have a total viewing capacity of 2500 people – providing grandstand style seating for 800 people, with additional standing viewing areas to watch all the excitement live on the main screen.

Fed Square stadium will be the centrepiece of the Melbourne 2008 Homeless World Cup, housing the lion’s share of 349 matches to be played over the week-long tournament from December 1-7.

Federation square is the genuine hub of Melbourne; positioned in the centre of Melbourne's cultural, sporting, shopping and entertainment precincts, much of what Melbourne has to offer is within easy walking distance such as the National Gallery of Victoria on St Kilda Road and the shopping, cafe and restaurant options in the city's famous lane ways nearby. Federation Square itself is home to the Ian Potter Gallery and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image.

The Homeless World Cup will see one of Federation Square's most ambitious projects. The stadium being built for the event will be the largest temporary structure ever built there and the only time an event like this has ever been staged.

Birrarung Marr is Melbourne's newest park, situated below Federation Square.  It's topography forms a natural amphitheatre in an area of open space on the bank of the Yarra River opposite the Botanic Gardens. It's the perfect spot to stroll and relax with Melbourne's city skyline as a stunning backdrop.

Iconic sporting landmark, the Melbourne Cricket Ground ( 'the G' as it's known here) is adjacent to Birrarung Marr.
