Second-placed Colombia came one step closer to securing the top
Women's table position with an assured win over Paraguay in Federation
Square today.
Colombian striker Maryury Moreno Ramos again proved lethal for Colombia, tapping in five of Colombia's six first-half goals. The Colombians then continued to dominate the play, stringing together solid passes and getting back quickly to defend their goal.
Tight defensive work by Paraguay slowed the Colombian goal-scoring early in the second half giving them some time to launch an attack of their own.
Noelia Rossana Borges proved a handful for the Colombians. Early in the second half, she positioned herself Viduka-style in front of the goal, brought down the ball, then turned and volleyed it in. She narrowly missed making it two just seconds later, forcing the keeper to save the ball as it cannoned towards the crossbar.
With good use of the walls and plenty of on-target shots in the second half, Paraguay were unlucky not to score a second goal.
Colombia will meet the recently arrived Liberian team in the Federation Square stadium this afternoon.
