Canada v Uganda

Canada (1) v Uganda (7)

The sun failed to  turn up  on finals day at the Homeless World Cup 2007. It did not matter since Uganda shone on its debut today, showing initiative, energy and outwitting its rivals from the start. The African team  scored four times in the first half of the game, leaving Canada struggling to get its acts together.

In the second part of the game the North American team looked in a better shape, it had clearly woken up and started to take the initiative to score. The Canadians worked hard but it still looked like they were chasing their opponents rather than  trying to anticipate their moves and beat them at their own game.

They finally managed one goal, just a few minutes before the referee signalled the end of the match.

The Canadians might have failed in their attempt to qualify for the Ombold Trophy, the prize named after the Danish homeless football association, but had the most special fan.

Sporting  a white dress with red maple-tree leaves, matching shoes and a white hat, baby Mackay - five months and a half- made no secret of her devotion for the Canadians.
