Canada (4) v (21) Chile

Canada (4) v (21) Chile

By Tim Beissmann

THE first game of Group G was a record breaker, with Chile scoring a Melbourne Homeless World Cup record 21 goals to Canada's four.

Chile began playing excellent possession football, sharing it around and scoring at will, with an incredible nine goals within the first three minutes to Emmanuel Eduardo Angulo Martinez and his fellow strikers.

The Chilean's footskills and pace were far superior to the defence of the North Americans, despite the desperation of Canadian leader Krystal Bell.

Cristian Arturo Ruiz Andrade played with great confidence and flair pushing into the forward line and did as he pleased in front of the net.

With the scoreboard reading 13-1 at half-time, the Canadian keeper clearly struggled early, but warmed to the task and made three crucial saves in the final minute.

Canada's second goal came early in the second half to Bell, thanks to lifted team intensity and pressure in its forward line.

But the Chileans were in control of the match from start to finish, with Felipe Antonio Orellana Vilchez coming on late and looking dangerous in the attacking half.

Angulo Martinez finished the game as he started with a hard hit goal, taking his tally to an incredible eight.

Chile made the perfect start to the secondary stage of the World Cup, surging to the top of their pool.
