Brazil (9) v (0) Hungary
By Tim BeissmannTHE Homeless World Cup favourites Brazil continued their dominant streak of form, easily accounting for Hungary 9-0 in the teams' final Group D match.
The Hungarians needed to be sharp from the outset against the South Americans and a sloppy own goal in the opening minute was the worst possible start.
Anderson De Franca Pierre showed his physical intentions early, flattening an opponent with a big hip and shoulder and asserting himself in the match in the process.
The Brazilians game plan throughout the tournament has been to use their spare man in attack and patiently push the ball around until he opens up.
The Brazilians second goal was threaded through the tightest of gaps by Eduardo Buglia Silva, and seconds later showed he possessed power as well as finesse when he slammed another into the top corner from half-way.
The 4-0 half time scoreline was a reflection of both the Brazilians patient knocking it around in attack and some solid defence from the Hungarians.
Hungarian keeper Istvan Tolnai was challenged early in the second half by the Brazilians, but stood up under pressure with three terrific diving saves in a matter of seconds.
When Pierre smacked a hard ball from the mid-line into the back of the net the crowd sensed the floodgates were about to open.
And the South Americans did not disappoint, abandoning the possession game for an all out attack approach.
Denis Rodrigues Strutz and Carlos Magno went goal-for-goal and only the referee's final whistle stopped them from blowing the margin out any further.
Finishing atop their group's table with an imposing goal difference of 31, the Brazilians sent out a warning to their rivals that they are very much the team to beat.
