Australia (5) v Chile (4)
Australia (0) v Chile (0)
It's the fourth quarter final in the INSP cup. There is a great atmosphere here as both setsof supporters are in good voice.
These two sides met in the group stages, where Australia beat the South Americans seven goals to five.
The winners of this match will play Kyrgyzstan and the lossers will play Hong Kong.
The game starts at a frenetic pass and the Aussies are awarded a first minutes penalty, and Sunny (number 8) steps up to slot the ball home.
Another Aussie effort brings a fine save from the Chilean keeper, then the Chilean number 10 scores of the post to level the scores. The
equalisers gives the Chilean team confidence and they start to control the game, but an intercepted pass puts Sunny from Australia in on goal and its soon 2-1 to the Street Socceroos. A couple of moments later, a rebound gifts Australian number 5, Joel the third Aussie strike. Undaunted by a two goal deficit, the Chileans continue to press the Aussie, but fine Aussie
defending keeps them at bay. However, the Chileans do manage to break down the Socceroos and soon
we are level at three a piece.
Drama then onfolds just as we approach half time. Henry, the Aussie goalkeeper hits his head saving from the Chileans. Inspite of the
seriousness of a head injury, it is several minutes before any medical help is available to the injured goalkeeper. The referee takes the players from the pitch
but it is still 10 minutes before an ambulance arrives. Soon afterwards, Henry is helped to his feet to a standing ovation to the crowd.
It's honours even at half time.
The second half starts brightly and both teams go close. The Australians are enjoying the lion's share of the possession and soon this is made to pay as
the Australian number 9 makes it 4-3 after some patient build-up play. Then a fantastic solo effort from the Socceroos' number 7 makes it 5-3. Those awaiting the Chilean response
did not have long to wait as the Chilean number 10 makes it 5-4 with a minute to play.
The Chileans pushed forward looking for a late equaliser, but their shots are wide. At the death, a close range shot bring a great save from the Aussie keeper.
So it's the Socceroos who will face the Kyrgyzstanis in the Semi-finals. The Chileans will go on to challenge Hong Kong.
