Afghanistan (9) v (8) Germany

Afghanistan (9) v (8) Germany

Afghanistan defeated Germany 9-8 in a thrilling match which showcased the contrasting styles of the two sides.

The Germans took the lead early on with a series of quick-paced passes, but Afghanistan soon caught up with their slow build-ups in the attacking half.

The goal-for-goal first half did not allow Germany to take the scores beyond the early one-goal margin – and the half ended 4-4.

Germany's Artur Welencik scored their fifth goal within the first ten seconds of the second half, but Afghanistan quickly replied to even the scores yet again.

Afghanistan kept the pace steady and under control - patiently keeping the play in the centre of the field.

But the Germans continued to pressure them, with several counter attacks and chances at goal.

But when Afghanistan scored four more goals, Germany could not get back into the game and Afghanistan left with a 9-8 victory.
